Titus 2:13
Looking for that blessed hope,
and the glorious appearing of the great God
and our Saviour Jesus Christ.
It's both exciting and comforting to wait for somebody that you
want to see with all your heart. It's exciting because you're thinking
about how wonderful it will be to be together.
And when you know that that special somebody is absolutely going
to show up, you can wait patiently, being comforted that you won't be disappointed.
As sons of God we are living every day in hope of the return of
Christ.
When Christ returns for his church, all believers since the day
of Pentecost will be gathered together to always be with Christ and with
God.
God's Word makes us some special promises about this hope.
I Corinthians 15 tells us that death
will be swallowed up in victory in the twinkling of an eye when the dead
in Christ are raised incorruptible and those who are still alive put on
immortality.
Philippians 3:20 & 21 tells us that our citizenship (called
"conversation") is in heaven and that that's where we're looking for Jesus
Christ. When he comes we'll get a "glorious" body like his.
I Thessalonians gives
us tremendously comforting doctrine about our hope.
Here's chapter 4:13 - 18:
"But I would not have you to
be ignorant, brethren,
concerning them which are asleep,
that ye sorrow not,
even as others which have no
hope.
For if we believe that Jesus
died and rose again,
even so those also which sleep
in Jesus will God bring with him.
For this we say unto you by
the word of the Lord,
that we which are alive and
remain unto the coming of the Lord
shall not prevent [precede]
them which are asleep.
For the Lord himself shall
descent from heaven with a shout,
with the voice of the archangel,
and with the trump of God,
and the dead in Christ shall
rise first:
Then we which are alive and
remain
shall be caught up together
with them in the clouds,
to meet the Lord in the air:
and so shall we ever be with
the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another
with these words."
And finally I John 3:1 - 3 gives us the added
information that whoever has "this hope in him, purifieth himself, even
as he is pure."
